Quenard Hicks

Coach Hicks loved to help young people and spent his free time coaching. He coached little league football and baseball for 48 years for the City of Houston. In 1997, we was named the Male Volunteer of the Year for the Southwest Region. In 1999, he was recognized for his "Outstanding Community Involvement with Youth" by Houston Mayor Lee P. Brown. Because of his involvement in youth sports, in 2000 a City Park was dedicated in his honor, the "Quenard E. Hicks Ball Park Complex." He also served as 1st. Vice-President with Greater Houston PW and President of the Garden Villa Giants.

Coach Hicks was all about fair play. There never seemed to be a reason to double check his books. You already knew he was playing by the rules. It was my Pleasure to be apart of the Giants family for the 2003 season. But my fundest memory of Coach Hicks is when I started my MCS Redskins in 2003. Coach Hicks was the VERY first person to donate to my organization. He didn't have to but he did it. For that I'll always have the highest level of respect for him. Coach hicks was more than a coach and he made the Giants more than a team. He made The Garden Villa Giants a family.  Unfortunaltley coach Hicks never got a chance to play in AYF. Yet every AYFer that knew him feels his impact every time they lace up their cleats.

COACH HICKS WAS A MAN OF HIS WORD AND MOST OF ALL A CHRISTIAN. HE SERVED HIS COMMUNITY, AND GOD FOR 72 YEARS. COACH HICKS TOUCHED SO MANY LIVES HE WAS LIKE A FATHER TO THE FATHERLESS AND A MENTOR TO ALL, EVEN IF YOU WERE NOT A GIANT. GOD NEEDED A HEAD COACH IN HEAVEN AND COACH HICKS ANSWERED THE CALL. HE RECEIVED HIS CROWN AND A GOLD WHISTLE ON APRIL 22 2007 AT 12:30 AM. KNOWING HIM HE WANTED THE TEAM UP EARLY FOR PRACTICE, AND IF THEY HAVE A BAR-B-Q TEAM UP THERE HE WILL WIN THE TURKEY LEG CATEGORY HANDS DOWN. THE GARDEN VILLA GIANT FAMILY FEELS HIS LOST DEEPLY, AND WE ALL WILL MISS HIM. HIS BELOVED GIANTS WILL CARRY ON HIS LEGACY OF HONESTY, DISCIPLINE AND HARD WORK "TOGETHERNESS WIN LOSE OR DRAW.
