Jim C. Taft, Chairman Emeritus of
American Youth Football, has been involved with youth football for 62
years. He played football for the major part of his life, beginning at age
8 in club leagues in his hometown of Charlotte,
N.C. Jim was a Pop Warner coach and
became athletic director and later executive director of the Salvation
Army Boys' Club. He has been the recipient of many awards including the
Outstanding Young Men of America of 1967, the national Pop Warner Service
to Youth Award, and numerous Man of the Year awards. He was responsible
for the first flag football rulebook and served as the National
Commissioner of Pop Warner. In June 2001, the American Football
Association honored Jim with its Hall of Fame Award. He was also a
co-founder of American Youth Football.
