Kinsfather started as a team mom, moved on to join her
Association Board and a few years later was asked to run for a position on
the Conference Board; it was not long before Kinsfather became the
Commissioner of San Diego Youth Football and Cheer. Under Kinsfather the
Conference grew from 12 Associations to 21 Associations and is still
growing, with approximately 6,000 flag, tackle and cheer participants, Rikki’s goal and that of the SDYFCC is that “every child that wants to
play or cheer has the opportunity to do so”. Under Kinsfather SDYFCC has
implemented coaches clinics, the requirement that all volunteers on the
fields had to have a picture ID badges (years before it caught on with the
rest of the nation.) Under Rikki, her conference has become the leader in
the field of concussion safety and awareness, their program “Standard
Assessment of Concussion” or S.A.C., requires that coaches attend a
special class to be trained in recognizing a concussion and how to test
for the level of concussion. San Diego Youth Football is the home of
three Heisman Trophy winners (and a possible fourth in the near future,
Reggie Bush), two Rose Bowl MVPS and two Super Bowl MVPS. SDYFCC is home
to several NFL Football players such as Marcus Allen, Terrell Davis,
Rashan Salaam, Ricky Williams, LeRoi Glover, David Dunn, Michael Wiley,
Larry Moore and Charger great Donny Edwards, “We have several more but the
list is just too long” she states with a laugh.
One of her
favorite quotes by coaching great, Amos Alonzo Stagg pretty much sums up her
motivation to continue doing what she does, its for the love of the children in
her Conference and the great game of football.
“I hold
with certainty that no painter, nor sculptor, nor any other artist does such
excellent work as he who molds the minds and character of youth.
