Eugene Thurman Upshaw, Jr. (August 15, 1945 – August 20, 2008)
Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and all those whose
lives he touched.
Upshaw was the only player in NFL history to participate in Super Bowls
in three different decades. He was also the only player ever to start on
championship teams in both the AFL and NFL.
Upshaw the commissioner of the NFL Players Association and Upshaw sat on the board of the NFL Youth Football Fund and was a
significant force behind its creation.
